Sick campaigning...

Does anyone else find it completely ludicrious that Kerry is blaming Bush for the flu vaccine shortage? British regulators shut off the supply due to contamination in the manufacturing process and that is now somehow Bush's fault. Hmmm....not following the logic here.
Kerry is doing nothing but stirring up people's fears over the flu. Hello...there are millions of people every year who do NOT get flu shots. Not getting one does not equate to dying. Yes, I realize that the elderly (especially in group situations like nursing homes) are at very high risk. Guess what? They are getting their flu shots. The news was showing people in their 20's, 30's, and 40's crying and carrying on. Pulease! Buck up.

Yes, Jen - haven't we figured out yet that Bush is the anti-christ??? I heard Kerry make the same comments and had the same thought as you. Well GOD KNOWS that with a Democratic president, we'll have that under control - as soon as he/she lets Hilary get her socialized medicine program off the ground - the government can run the drug companies, too, while they're at it!!

I personally quit getting the flu shot (while working at the hospital where we got them for free) after coming down with the flu two years in a row within a week of taking the shot.

What? It's not a live virus vaccine you say?? Impossible to get the flu from the vaccine you say?? Yeah, and teething doesn't cause diarrhea or high fever in babies, either. And wind doesn't cause a colicky baby. I've heard all that, too - and let me tell you one thing. POPPYCOCK!!

I guess maybe out here in rural Texas, where we're not crammed in cities, person upon person upon person, it's just not as big an issue as it is for city dwellers. Or maybe it's just the sturdy pioneer stock I come from - I don't know. All I can say is - when I take the shot, I get the flu (and get it BAD, I might add), but when I don't, I might come down with a cold or upper respiratory infection - but nothing like when I have had the vaccine - go figure.

I don't think my pediatrician recommended it last year when my baby was 1 year old, but this year, she (the same dr) told my sister to get it for my niece, who is one year old now. Of course, with the shortage, it's a moot point anyway, right? ...osm

I agree as well. If your healthy and not in an enviornment that is full of germs (school is one of those infested with Germs) I'd say skip it. I've never had a flu shot and nor do I plan on getting one anytime soon. It just doesn't make sense to me. Perhaps my logic is flawed but it seems like the flu would mutate and you'd have to get another type of flu shot anyways (similar to the bugs in farming building up a resistance to the chemicals put on the plants). Sounds similar enough for me, but I don't really know a whole lot about the flu shot.
